Times Square Tech Company | Rooftop
Gallin pulled off two stunning transformations high atop the Times Square Building in midtown. The global tech company occupying the building’s top floors asked the architects at Nelson to reimagine two previously unused utilitarian areas, making them fit for both work and play. The result: a mechanical storage area now doubles as a breathtaking two-story event space featuring double-height windows, polished concrete floors, stand-alone air conditioning, all-new restrooms, and a full pantry. The roof, once unoccupiable, has been converted into a recreational oasis. Gallin installed an elevator lobby and stair bulkhead, Ipe tiered seating, stylish benches, and pergolas for shade. Slatted wood fencing and concrete planters are an attractive way of masking mechanical equipment. At center, a large pantry with wraparound counters is the perfect place from which to serve refreshments.
