William S. Paley Foundation

The William S. Paley Foundation, a major name in philanthropy, hired the architects at Fradkin Cooper to do a much-needed upgrade to their 1 East 53rd Street property, a 17-story building in the heart of one of the most historic stretches of New York City. Starting on the roof, Gallin installed a new water tank, reinforcing the existing platform with galvanized steel. Inside, the common areas and restrooms on all floors were updated with fresh acoustical ceiling tiles, cheerful lighting, attractive bathroom fixtures and tiles, new carpeting, sprinklers, and fire alarms. The Theater Room was renovated from top to bottom with new drywall, plumbing, A/V and electrical, and handsome flooring. Originally built in 1927, this long-standing structure received this floor-by-floor refresh just in time to enter its second century.
